Brewery news USA, SC: 357 Brewers bringing a new brewery to Myrtle Beach
The Myrtle Beach community is getting the first look at renderings of a waterfront craft brewery coming to the area, WMBF reported on May 6.

357 Brewers says it’s bringing a three-plus-acre coastal campus to the Grande Dunes Marina. The company released the first renderings of it on May 6.

Some of the features of the campus include the 10,000-square-foot brewery, which the company said will have modern 15-barrel and three-barrel pilot brewing systems.

There will also be indoor and outdoor bars along with indoor and outdoor dining, a news release states.

Besides the food and drinks, there will be a music yard for live performances and events.

“We’re not just building a brewery—we’re building a destination,” 357 Brewers founder Nick Vaugh said. “357 Brewers is where big ideas, bold flavors, and coastal energy collide. It’s designed to be unforgettable—from the beer to the experience.”

357 Brewers says the design of the campus builds on the momentum of its sister concept, 357 Raw Coastal Bar, which opened earlier this year.

In a news release from the South Carolina Governor’s Office, officials said that 357 Brewers invested $6.4 million into the new brewery.

That news release also stated that it’s expected to open in the summer of 2026.

Brewery news UK & USA: BrewDog reportedly looses almost £7 mln in the US last year
The Scottish beer giant BrewDog has reportedly lost almost £7 million in the United States last year as the company cuts back its operations, Yahoo!News reported on May 3.

The Ellon-based beer firm poured £4.2m into its stateside branch in 2024 but has recorded a loss of £6.7m, blaming a slowdown in the craft beer market, the Scottish Sun has reported.

“This is not pretty at all,” one shareholder told the newspaper, adding that the “whole situation looks pretty dire”.

It was reported that BrewDog has also slashed its operations in the US, with its brewery in Columbus, Ohio, running at 30% capacity.

The drinks firm has also cut the number of states they sell to from 33 to 14.

In a recovery bid dubbed Operation Slingshot, BrewDog has ramped up its production for other US companies with contract brewing up 544%.

However, CEO James Taylor reportedly insisted the US operation had turned a profit of £376,000.

He said: “It’s not a disappointing result at all.

“It’s not vast, but we’ve returned it back to profit. There is still much to do and a huge opportunity.”

Accounts also revealed BrewDog USA chief John Graham stood down at the start of the year after less than two years in the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, FL: Green Turtle Brewery set to open in Cycle Brewing’s former location in St. Petersburg
A British-style brewery featuring traditional brewing methods and British fare is set to open next month in the space that Cycle Brewing, St. Pete’s first brewery, has occupied for the past 12 years, St. Pete Rising reported on May 5.

Cycle Brewing will close its taproom sometime this month, but will continue to brew beer at its production warehouse at 2135 5th Avenue South.

Green Turtle Brewery and Public House, located at 534 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete, will serve classic styles of beer such as IPAs, lagers, and porters, with a special focus on cask ales, which are traditional British beers brewed using natural fermentation and served via hand pump.

“It's the freshest beer you can have because it undergoes secondary fermentation in the cask,” said Todd Bearden, who is opening Green Turtle Brewery with his wife, Colleen. “It's not filtered, not pasteurized, and has natural carbonation. It’s alive and breathing.”

Cask ale is a living product containing active yeast, which causes it to change over time and require fresh consumption, typically within a few days of tapping.

Most cask ales are between 3% and 5% ABV, so you can have a few without getting too buzzed or feeling too full.

Brewery news USA, FL: Rule G Brewing Co. closes its doors blaming financial challenges
Rule G Brewing Co., Coconut Creek’s first microbrewery, has closed its doors, ending a short-lived chapter for the 2,800-square-foot venture located at West Creek Plaza, TAPinto reported on May 3.

In a message posted to customers, the owners announced the closure with what they called their “final stop” — a nod to the brewery’s railroad-themed branding. The farewell came after a “One for the Road” party on Wednesday, April 16.

“With deep sadness, we announce that Rule G Brewing Co. is pulling into the station for its final stop—at least for now,” the brewery said in its statement.

The owners cited declining revenue over the past two quarters, rising production costs, and shifting customer patterns as the main reasons behind the decision to shut down.

Opened in late 2023 at 4800 West Hillsboro Boulevard, Rule G Brewing Co. drew attention for its curated craft beer lineup and quirky, railroad-inspired name.

Despite early enthusiasm, the business struggled to gain long-term traction.

The owners said they explored “every viable path” to stay open but ultimately couldn’t overcome the financial challenges.

It’s unclear if the brewery will attempt to reopen elsewhere in the future.

Whisky news USA, TX: Devils River Distillery files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection
Dave Bautista-backed Devils River Distillery in Texas has become the latest whiskey maker to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, The Spirits Business reported on May 6.

Based in San Antonio, Devils River Distillery filed for bankruptcy under Subchapter V in the US Bankruptcy Court for Western District of Texas.

The company reported assets between US$1 million and US$10m against liabilities in the US$50,001 to US$100,000 range. It owes money to creditors including Pollock (US$50,634), Persedo (US$19,270), and Parking Management (US$5,927).

Founded in 2017 by Mike Cameron, Devils River Whiskey has nine expressions in its portfolio and can be found in 36 states and five countries. It is distributed by 375 Park Avenue Spirits.

Devils River Distillery did not respond to a request for comment.

Bautista, known for roles in films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune, joined Devils River as an investor in October 2023.

Cameron said at the time that the American actor’s involvement in Devils River was a “major step” towards the company “leading the diversification of Bourbon culture and elevating Texas whiskey”.

Cameron is also the president of the Texas Distilled Spirits Association and founded Rebecca Creek Distillery in San Antonio in 2007. He is also part of the Distilled Spirits ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OR: Assembly Brewing announces last day of its southeast Portlandn brewpub
Assembly Brewing’s last day of service at their southeast Portland brewpub is Sunday, May 11th 2025. The Assembly Pizza Annex satellite location on NE Alberta St. will remain open after the brewery closes permanently, The New School reported on May 6.

Oregon’s first and only black-owned brewery is calling it quits after 6 years. Assembly Brewing opened in southeast Portland in March of 2019 to much fanfare for it’s innovative brewpub and dedication to authentic Detroit culture. Though he didn’t know it or champion it at the time, owner/brewer George Johnson became the first black brewery owner ever in the state of Oregon…and for now he will be the last.

Johnson hails from Detroit, and his brewery has been as much about the culture of Motor City as Assembly’s beers took inspiration from classic Midwest and Pacific Northwest brewpubs where he first learned to love craft beer. From the beginning, Assembly Brewing and Johnson took authenticity seriously and stayed true to his original vision for good or ill.

A brewery serving pizza is almost as common as finding a burger on the menu, but Assembly Brewing’s dedication to a classical and stylisticly strict definition of true Detroit-style Pizza made it arguably the ...More info on site

Brewery news Japan: Suntory set to revise prices for its products in October
Japanese drinks multinational Suntory is set to revise prices for its products in Japan as it grapples with rising costs, The Drinks Business reported on May 6.

Suntory Beverage & Food Limited has announced it will “implement price revisions” for products in Japan. The changes will impact shipments made on or after 1 October 2025.

In a statement announcing the price hikes, Suntory said it was facing increased costs in manufacturing, logistics and other operations as prices continue to rise in the Japanese economy.

The company said it could no longer absorb rising costs, resulting in price revisions.

The adjustments will impact products packaged in PET bottles, cans, and other containers. Specifically, prices for PET bottles will increase by 6% to 25%, while can prices will rise between 10% and 24%. However, Suntory did not detail which specific products would be impacted.

The statement asserted that the company “will remain committed to pursuing technological innovation and enhancing productivity, with the aim of continuing to enrich the lives of consumers by delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality products that offer new value”.

Japan’s economy is struggling due to the country’s increasing and ageing population, resulting in a shrinking workforce and increasing social care costs.

Added to that, US President ...More info on site

Brewery news UK: Heineken announces major investment plan to revamp and reopen dozens of pubs across the UK
Heineken is set to create around 1,000 jobs as part of a major investment plan which will revamp and reopen dozens of pubs across the UK, The Independent reported on May 5.

The Dutch brewing giant said it will provide a £40 million cash injection into its Star Pubs operation.

It said more than 600 of its 2,400 UK venues will receive investment funds to make improvements over the next year.

Bosses said the move is a “resounding vote of confidence” in the sector despite recent cost increases and pressure on consumer finances.

Works have already started or been completed to reopen 10 pubs so far this year, with further sites that are currently closed earmarked for investment to welcome customers again.

The company reopened 62 of its long-term closed pubs last year, leaving the business with its lowest level of closed venues since 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs’ managing director, said: “Consistent investment – rather than a stop, start approach – and a strategy of creating great locals have been key to helping our pubs weather the storms of the last few years.

“Heineken sees firsthand the value in great British pubs and their ongoing popularity.

“It recognises that Brits love their ...More info on site
