E-Malt.com News article: UK: New Malted Ingredients re-locates to new warehouse and installs new higher speed packing line
Malt news

The re-location and installation of the new Band Drier Packing line was the first part of a major investment in logistical improvements at Muntons Malted Ingredients (MMI). With a total investment of well over half a million Euros, MMI are making sure that they can meet their customer’s requirements, the company recently released.

Band dried products were traditionally stored in interim aluminium “totes” prior to filling into 25 kg bags. The installation of the new higher speed packing line will allow band dried products to be packed on line and this has freed a large storage area.

The new MMI warehouse is located in what was the band dried tote store and features the latest in wire-guided narrow aisle storage. This has enabled MMI to install an additional 900 storage slots.

The narrow aisle racks are accessed by a new dual purpose rising cabin “VNA man-up” fork lift truck especially designed not only to work within the constraints of the narrow aisles but also to allow the driver to travel with the load, to safely store palletised goods at the extremes of storage height.

This new facility will bring tremendous logistical improvements to materials handling within the Malted Ingredients area. The new warehouse will include an order consolidation and despatch area, which will simplify and speed the preparation and despatch of orders. It will begin to be used from the end of July this year

Muntons has been producing malt and malted ingredients for over 80 years. During this time it had grown to become a significant international player in the supply of malts, malt extracts, homebrew kits, flours and flakes to the food and drinks industry.
