The brewers, Lion Nathan and Cooper's, are about to announce the settlement of their legal dispute over tradermarks, according to Australian reports. The dispute is over the use of the word "new" in Cooper's upgraded brands. Lion Nathan began legal action in February alleging that the use of the word "new" on the upgraded brands infringed its Tooheys New trademark. The Federal Court refused to issue an injunction in Lion Nathan's favour but the brewer has continued legal proceedings. Neither company has commented on the speculation that a settlement is imminent.
