Beer production has become an important part of the Mexican economy, as it now accounts for the largest export income in the food and drink sector, according to South American Business Information.

Exports of Mexican beer grew by 14% in 2002, growing to a value of US$145.1 million, according to preliminary figures, and the outlook for increased sales in North America and Europe, as well as some new Asian markets, is promising.

Brewing accounts for 20.6 percent of the total foreign investment in the food and drink sector. Domestically, sales have grown to an average of Pesos$3.2bil per month, and the industry employs 20,000.
