Asahi Breweries, the Japanese brewing giant, has reported its intention to increase retail prices of happoshu low-malt beer from May 1, 2003. The company suggested that retail prices for 350ml cans of happoshu will increase by Y10 and the prices of 500ml cans will go up by Y16.

Kirin has also raised its happoshu prices.

The price rises are caused by tax increase on happoshu from May, 2003.
