DEC 23, 2002 - Interbrew says it is recalling a relatively small number of Boddingtons Draught Bitter because they may have been contaminated with cleaning fluid. "Interbrew UK have withdrawn from sale all Boddingtons Draught Bitter, 24 packs of 440 ml cans, batch code L2 302R with a best before date of August 03," the Belgium-based brewing giant said in a statement on Sunday.
"The affected product may contain traces of cleaning fluid used during the brewing process to clean the inside of beer storage tanks," it said.
It said the contamination did not represent a public health issue, but that beer contaminated with cleaning fluid could have an unpleasant taste and smell, and "if consumed may cause some discomfort to the mouth and throat."
A company spokeswoman said the recall covered "around about 9,000 cans" of beer.
