E-Malt.com News article: USA, PA: Black Rock Brewing Company to land in Linglestown this summer
Brewery news

Black Rock Brewing Company is landing in Linglestown this summer, PennLive.com reported on July 19.

The Pottsville brewery is expanding with a second brewpub at 5948 Linglestown Road in Lower Paxton Township. It will open July 30 in a former church, considered by some to be a Linglestown landmark.

“We’re going for the mass appeal,” said Bobby Weaver, partner with Marty Schoffstall, owner of Spring Gate Vineyard & Winery in Lower Paxton Township. “The menu is built in a way that everything is enjoyable.”

The space will accommodate indoor and outdoor seating with something for everyone, he said. Initially, it will be open Fridays and Saturdays.

Weaver added Black Rock’s goal is to be a multi-faceted venue with events such as Olympics Games viewing nights, comedy and live music.

It will serve a limited menu of signature stuffed pretzel rolls like Buffalo chicken and chicken bacon ranch along with baked Brussels sprouts sprinkled with Everything But the Bagel seasoning and topped with garlic aioli.

Of course, Black Rock beer will be on tap as well as some of Spring Gate’s beers. Black Rock’s beer lineup covers drinkable styles such as blonde ales, light lagers, mild IPAs and German pilsners.

“We also have this really unique tap system that pours the beer from the bottom. We’re the only ones in the region that have this,” Weaver said.

The Bottoms Up system automatically dispenses beer from the bottom of the glass through a sealed magnet.

Black Rock is a new venture. It debuted this spring in Pottsville in a restored former YWCA building with a microbrewery and event space. It also hosts an aggressive schedule of events such as Seafood Fest, Smoked Meat Fest, Tacos & Trivia, live music and comedy nights.

In the 14 weeks since it opened, Weaver said they have been busy and served more than 1,000 visitors during the weekend Seafood Fest.

Schoffstall, who is a minority stockholder in Black Rock, operates a Spring Gate bottle shop and tasting room inside the Pottsville brewpub, something he plans to do in Linglestown.

In fact, he owns Black Rock’s newest home, which over the years has housed several restaurants including Spring Gate in the Village and Zia’s Trattoria Italian Restaurant. It was previously the Linglestown Church of God.

Schoffstall said he was eager to bring in the Black Rock team and introduce some energy into the building.

Schoffstall opened Spring Gate in 2014, making good use of several patios and open space and a busy events schedule to quickly build a loyal following. A brewery followed in 2015 and a distillery debuted this month.

Few operations in the mid-Atlantic can match the amount of different product that SpringGate makes. In addition, Spring Gate at Walden opened in September 2019 in the Crossroads at Walden development near Routes 11 and 114 in Silver Spring Township.
