E-Malt.com News article: Canada, NS: Bedford’s Topside Brewing announces release of its first beers
Brewery news

A new family-owned and home-based brewery in the town of Bedford, Nova Scotia has announced the release of its first beers, the Canadian Beer News reported on September 22.

Topside Brewing has been founded by Blair and Erin Tobin, and is named after a diving term inspired by Blair’s career as a Royal Canadian Navy Clearance Diver.

The brewery had its public debut last weekend with the tapping of a keg of On the Bottom East Coast IPA (6% abv) at local beer garden Birch & Anchor. The beer is described as follows:

On the Bottom is named after the diving term when a diver will communicate with Topside (aka. the surface crew) when they reach bottom by stating “On the Bottom”. The beer is a hazy East Coast style IPA. Generously hopped with both early and late addition hops, and then dry-hopped with an abundance of Cascade. It has a bitter back end and delightful hop aroma and smooth mouth feel.

In addition to On the Bottom, the brewery will offer three other core brands – 5 Bells Session IPA (4.6% abv), Joyce’s Boy Hefeweizen (5% abv), and Lord’s Porter (6% abv) – as well as occasional seasonal and one-off beers.

Topside beers will soon be available on tap at other local bars and pubs, and growlers can be ordered for direct home delivery.
