United Kingdom: Eleven new varieties of barley have been added to the new HGCA Recommended Lists: four winter barley varieties - Flagon (potential malting variety), Saffron and Spectrum (two-row feed), and Amarena (six-row feed); seven spring barley types -NFC Tipple, Oxbridge and Westminster (potential malting varieties) and Waggon, Tocada, Wicket and Power (feed varieties), HGCA announced on December 2.

HGCA Recommended Lists manager Dr Jim McVittie said: "It's been a real bumper year for barley. The 11 new barley varieties really do add something to the lists, with improvements in potential malting quality, grain yield and agronomic characters. It is very unusual to see so many good varieties come along at one time."
