E-Malt.com News article: USA, OH: Cartridge Brewing Co. coming to Kings Mills soon
Brewery news

Developers have long viewed the historic Peters Cartridge factory in Kings Mills as a building worthy of a second life.

Looks like that vision is about to take shape in the form of a brewery, Cincinnati.com reported on February 20.

Cartridge Brewing Co. announced on its social media platforms that it will help to restore the Peters Cartridge factory to “its former glory as a gathering place for the Kings Mills community.”

A full-service kitchen and a brewhouse dedicated to a variety of taproom beers and special bottle releases will be part of the new brewery that will open in 2019, according to the Cartridge Brewing Facebook page.

The brewery will be the first of many new tenants to the old factory, located along the Little Miami Bike Trail at 1415 Grandin Road. The buildings will be transformed for mixed use which will include a commercial and retail component along with apartments, according to Matt Schnipke, deputy director of the Warren County Port Authority.

The county and the Port view this project as a “blessing,” he said. The former industrial site had environmental issues, which have been addressed. There are also infrastructure issues which made redevelopment as an industrial site unlikely, Schnipke said.

The Port is thrilled to play a role in seeing the site transformed into something that once again gives back to the community, he said. The redevelopment project is being managed by Bloomfield Schon & Partners.

The Peters Cartridge factory, built in the 1880s, rests on about 14 acres and has a long history in the Kings Mills area. The factory made gunpowder and ammunition. Peters Cartridge sold to Remington Arms in 1934. The factory continued to manufacture rifle and shotgun ammunition until near the end of World War II when it was finally closed.
