UK: Scottish & Newcastle plc announced on October 1 the appointment of Sir Ian Robinson, Chairman of Hilton Group plc, to the S&N board as a non-executive director, effective from October 1, 2004. Commenting on the appointment, Sir Brian Stewart, Chairman of S&N, said: 'Sir Ian is a highly respected international businessman. He has a wide range of experience in a number of industries, and the Board will particularly benefit from his deep knowledge of building and developing international businesses. We are delighted to welcome him to the S&N Board.'

Sir Ian Robinson, 62, has been Chairman of Hilton Group plc, the international hotel and betting group with operations in more than 70 countries, since 2001. Amongst other roles he was Chief Executive of Scottish Power from 1995 to 2001, Chairman of Scottish Enterprise and AMEY until 2003. Prior to that he had wide experience in international engineering with Trafalgar House and John Brown. He is a member of the Take Over Panel, and a member of advisory boards for Siemens UK, and CVC Private Equity.

Scottish & Newcastle plc is a major international brewer with strong positions in 13 European countries, including leadership in Russia, the UK, and France, and interests in 50 breweries worldwide.
