E-Malt.com News article: USA, GA: Halfway Crooks Brewing and Blending coming to Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood
Brewery news

The Summerhill neighborhood in Atlanta is getting a new brewery, the Atlanta Journal reported on November 29.

Halfway Crooks Brewing and Blending is set to open next summer in the Georgia Avenue development, the Good Beer Hunting blog reports. The mixed-use development is currently under construction near Georgia State Stadium, formerly Turner Field.

Halfway Crooks will likely be the first “own premise” brewery in the state, meaning that a majority of the company’s revenue will come from sales at the brewery itself. Prior to recent changes in Georgia’s beer laws, breweries were required to sell their product only through highly-regulated distributors.

Founded by Joran Van Ginderachter, the former brewmaster of Three Taverns Brewery in Decatur, local homebrewer and engineer Shawn Bainbridge and partner Tim Kilic, Halfway Crooks’ vision includes limited production of esoteric beers including unfiltered lagers, mixed fermentation and saisons that they control throughout the entire brewing process, from raw ingredients to storage to the glass.

Halfway Crooks plans to open in May or June of 2018 and will feature a 10-barrel draft beer system and a rooftop patio. Local architecture firm Square Feet Studio will design the space, and a limited menu of locally-sourced meats and cheeses will be available. While the team does not plan for Halfway Crooks to become a full-service brewpub, they hope to host pop-up dinners and partner events with chefs. Halfway Crooks is the first tenant to be officially announced at the Summerhill development.
