United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) posted on September 13 world barley trade changes in 2004/2005. According to USDA Australia barley export is down 200,000 tonnes to 4.3 million tonnes as a result of increased competition from Ukraine. Canada barley export is down 200,000 tonnes to 1.9 million tonnes due to a diminished crop. Ukraine barley export expands by 500,000 tonnes to 3.3 million tonnes based on a larger crop.

USDA also posted world barley trade changes in 2003/2004. According to USDA, Australia barley export in 2003/2004 is up 200,000 tonnes to 5.0 million tonnes based on a strong shipment pace. Russia barley export drops by 400,000 tonnes to 2.6 million tonnes as shipments slowed significantly in recent months. Ukraine barley exports increases by 300,000 tonnes to 1.6 million tonnes due to a strong pace and aggressive sales.
