E-Malt.com News article: EU: Forecast for increased French spring barley plantings seems to be realistic
Barley news

GrainCom analysts note some more activity on malting barley lately, especially in France new crop for winter and spring barley, and also some spot business for Scandinavian malting barley has been done, it is reported.

The predicted increase in French spring barley acreage seems to be confirmed (of course depending on planting conditions) despite the increase in sugar beets which is to some extent competition for acreage. At present, GrainCom analysts estimate that an area of about 470-480 thousand ha for spring barley is realistic. Plantings will probably start within the next two weeks.

Precipitation in France was way below average the last months, consequently the water reserves are pretty low – of course this is a long shot but nevertheless something to keep in mind in case of hot and dry weather in May/June.
