Ukraine's malt imports suffered a decline of 15.3% down to 13,570 tons during the first five months of 2002, if compared with the corresponding period of 2001. However, this period registered some positive tendencies of malt imports, State Statistics Committee (SSC) reveals. According to the supplied figures by SSC, in May 2002 Ukraine’s malt imports rose by 163.3% up to 4,437 tons for USD 950 thousand, in comparison with April 2002. If we compare the figures of May 2002 year-to-year, malt imports rose by 9.2%. And, the biggest supplier for this period was Germany with 840 tons.
