E-Malt.com News article: USA, NY: Buffalo’s Big Ditch Brewing Company to expand production capacity
Brewery news

After recently being called “Best Craft Brewery in New York State” at the TAP NY craft beer festival, a local company has announced their plans for expansion, Flavor574 reported on April 26.

Buffalo’s Big Ditch Brewing Company says they are going to expand their brewery and tap room, as well as make their beer available for purchase in cans around western New York.

Big Ditch, which was founded by four western New Yorkers in 2013, was among more than 120 New York breweries attending the TAP NY event in Hunter, N.Y.

“We are extremely humbled and grateful to win this award,” stated Matt Kahn, president of Big Ditch Brewing Company. “While our staff has worked very hard for this, the accomplishment wouldn’t be possible without the outstanding support we’ve received from the local community.”

Their name pays homage to a New York staple — the Erie Canal. The “Big Ditch,” as it was nicknamed early on, was a major part of Buffalo’s quick growth into one of the country’s biggest cities by the early twentieth century.

The company’s expansion is expected to triple their brewing capacity, which is currently about 5,000 barrels or 150,000 gallons of beer per year.

“We’re pleased to be increasing our investment into Buffalo’s Electric District and Western New York in order to provide more beer for our loyal customers,” stated Paul Iskalo, co-founder of Big Ditch Brewing Company.

The company’s owners hope that the return of brewing in Buffalo will help support the region’s revival.
