E-Malt.com News article: USA, PA: Kennett Brewing Co. to open in Kennett Square
Brewery news

Kennett Square’s newest brew pub - Kennett Brewing Co. - is days from opening, and Mark Osborne, the self-confessed obsessive who’s a big part of the driving force behind the Kennett Brewing Company, is everywhere at once during the final scramble to get everything ready, Southern Chester County Weeklies reported on June 21.

Osborne threw himself into craft brewing the way he evidently does everything else, with a great deal of effort, energy, diligence, and focus on detail. “I abhor nothing more than inattentiveness,” he says.

When not otherwise occupied, he read about beer, and sought more information online and wherever else he could, going “from not being a brewer to not bad at all in maybe three or four months.”

Osborne kept striving for excellence. “I became obsessed with reproducing that Fegley’s ESB,” he says, and after four years, he felt he accomplished that. He brewed continually, estimating he’s produced about 500 batches in the last 10 years—he “stopped counting after 400 and something,” he says.

And in recent years, friends started encouraging the Osbornes to open a brew pub.

Mary Hutchins of Historic Kennett Square and Brant Kucera, the borough manager at the time, were enthusiastic, and real estate agent Andy Crawford helped find the Osbornes a location at 109 S. Broad St, Kennett Square. The space needed a great deal of renovation work, which took time and effort.

The effort was a long one, and not easy at times, but the enthusiasm for this sort of venue was there in the community, and people showed it. “We had a tremendous amount of help,” Osborne says.
