Somerville Brewing Company owners Jeff Leiter and Caitlin Jewell said they are now realizing a dream, announcing last week they are opening up their own brewery in Somerville later this year.
The Somerville Brewing Company, makers of the Slumbrew line of beers, will open its own taproom, sometime in the next five to six months, Leiter and Jewell announced.

"This is a huge moment for us," said Leiter, who will be the head brewer. "We're just really thrilled to take this step into a brick and mortar facility. We wanted to have a proven product, a market for our product and a following to our product, and I think we have achieved all three."

The couple founded Slumbrew in 2011, and the beers have been brewed at the Mercury Brewing Company in Ipswich. They produce four year-round beers - Happy Sol, Flagraiser, Porter Square Porter and Trekker Tripel. They also brew a host of seasonals and special releases, such as Snow Angel and Yankee Swap.

The bottled beers will continue to be brewed at Mercury, Leiter said.

The new brewery will brew those same beers, but draft only, which will be served in the new taproom. Also on tap will be some new beers exclusive to the taproom.

The new brewery will be in the area of Somerville, which is accessible by bus. It's also within walking distance of several local hotspots, Jewell said.

The brewery itself is in an approximately 3,500 square foot space, 1,500 of which will be devoted to the taproom. The new brewing capacity will add about 2,500 barrels of brewing capacity to their beer production.

The brewery will serve pints of beer, as well as growler fills. The expanded brewing capacity will "allow us to expand our more esoteric one-off beers," Leiter said. The space will also allow them to begin a barrel-aging program, he said.

The new taproom should be able to hold between 80 and 120 people.
