In 2003 Russian breweries produced about 73 million hl of beer, according to The Russian Beer Union estimations, V. Mamontov, the president of Russian Beer Union said at the press conference on December 30. He added that in 2004 beer production in Russia would increase 4% and reach the level of 76-76.5 million hl of beer.

Now Russia has about 300 breweries, 20 of which are major and other are medium and small.

In 2002 beer consumption per capita in Russia reached 47 litres. However in central regions this figure comes to 60-65 litres meanwhile in underdeveloped regions it comes only to 15 litres, Mamontov said.
