E-Malt.com News article: Namibia: Namibia Breweries Limited continues to grow on local market
Brewery news

The Namibian market is a significant contributor to Namibia Breweries Limited’s total revenue and earnings, while Tafel Lager and Windhoek Draught brands have maintained a significant income growth and a very strong portfolio compared to last year, Namibia Economist cited Patrick Hashingola, the outgoing manager of corporate communication at NBL, on July, 8.

“Regionally, our South African Joint Venture (DHN Drinks Ltd) continues to grow in a very competitive beer market. Overall, volumes in the remainder of our exports markets are in line with our projections and this was primarily attributed to Windhoek Lager and Windhoek Draught,” Hashingola said.

Namibia Breweries announced its half year financial results for the period ended 31 December 2010, on 25 March this year.

At the time, the company said the brewery’s operating profit before equity losses for the six month period ending 31 December 2010 showed a 19% increase over the previous period.

“The increase was driven in part by the brewer’s cost base benefiting from lower malted barley prices. Earnings per share increased by 38%. The company pays an interim dividend per ordinary share of 25 cents,” said Desmond van Jaarsveld, managing director of NBL.

He said the brewery remains positive that the third and fourth quarters of this calendar year will deliver further growth results as the company is making significant new investments into the Windhoek production site that will ensure a position to support continued growth.

On the issue of new capacity expansion for the brewery, Hashingola said: “the company believes that the new investments for the brewery were necessary and crucial in ensuring that we are geared towards the ever growing demand for our beer mainly on our export markets.”
