In 2011, Canadian farmers expect to plant more barley compared with 2010, Statistics Canada reports.

At the national level, farmers anticipate seeding 7.8 million acres of barley, up 13.4% compared with the 6.9 million acres seeded in 2010.

The acreage planted to barley in Manitoba is expected to increase to 610 thousand acres vs. 480 thousand in 2010, in Saskatchewan – to 2.8 mln vs. 2.135, in Alberta – to 3.9 mln vs. 3.750 mln acres planted last year.
