E-Malt.com News article: Japan: Asahi’s beer sales decline by 5.7% last month

Japan’s Asahi Breweries said on February, 12 its total beer sales dropped by 5.7% to 87,823 kl in January 2010.

As compared to January 2009, sales of ordinary beer fell by 8.1% to 59,415 kl last month. Sales of low-malt happoshu beer plummeted 27.5% to 11,442 kl, whereas malt-based new genre beer saw a 33.1% rise in demand to 16,966 kl.

As for sales by brand, Asahi’s Style Free showed a 19.1% decline to 550 cases, sales of Super Dry dropped by 14.8% whereas sales of Clear Asahi remained the same as in January 2009 at 910 cases.
