Carlsberg, the Danish brewery group has better nine-month results than expected.

Carlsberg posted an operating profit of DKK 2769m for the nine-month period of this year, which was 55 percent better than the same period of last year (DKK 1784m). As Carlsberg said "The improvement in results is due to significant growth in Eastern Europe and Asia, whereas Western Europe is slightly better than last year, primarily due to the inclusion of Feldschlösschen. To this is added a favorable effect from the sale of properties in Carlsberg A/S."

Beer production increased by 16% and the turnover of DKK 35052m increased by 21% compared to the previous year. As Carsberg said "Most of the increase is due to Eastern Europe and the acquisition of Feldschlösschen and Türk Tuborg."

"In the aggregate, Carlsberg A/S' share of the results for the entire financial year is still expected to be somewhat above that of last year (12 months), which is unchanged in relation to the first half-year 2001 financial statement."
