E-Malt.com News article: Latvia: Brewer Cēsu alus launches a porter specially for the winter season
Brewery news

Latvian brewer JSC Cēsu alus has launched a classic Baltic Sea region porter for the fifth year in a row during the winter season, the company announced at the end of last month.

Consumer demand trends prove the fact that during winter-autumn season people drink more dark beer. Therefore releasing Cēsu Porter in particular, before the winter solstice is nothing uniquely new, it is a tradition favoured by consumers since 2005, the brewer said.

Working in the development of porter, every year this beer is offered in different taste and flavour variations. In previous years there has been chocolate, balsam as well as Christmas porter. This year it is the classic or Baltic porter – dark, stout beer, which has been produced using roasted and caramelised malt, which gives the beer its dark tint and light flavour of roasting and caramel.

Joint Stock Company Cēsu Alus is the second largest beer brewery in Latvia and is the oldest brewery in Northern Europe. 98 % of the voting shares belong to the Finnish holding company OLVI Oyj. Since 2001, 25 million lats have been invested in company development, 7 million of those in 2008 in the expansion of the manufacturing complex and installation of the canning line.
