E-Malt.com News article: Russia & Chile: Baltika becomes the first Russian brewer to ship production to Chile
Brewery news

Baltika Breweries announced on October, 26 that it had shipped a container with 0.5 litre glass bottles of Arsenalnoe Traditional beer to Chile.

The total volume of the shipment was 10,000 litres, Baltika said.

Such beer shipment by sea takes a month and a half on average. Arsenalnoe Traditional will reach Chile just in time for the beer-drinking season, which in the Southern Hemisphere begins at the end of November.

Arsenalnoe Traditional beer will be distributed throughout Chile, with most sales concentrated in the largest cities of the country. Baltika Breweries has created a label with a Latinized Arsenalnoe logo specifically for the Chilean market, as well as a special ‘four-pack’ packaging. Arsenalnoe Traditional will be positioned in Chile in the ‘Imported premium beers' segment, which enjoys a growing interest in the region.

“Baltika Breweries is the only Russian company supplying beer to Chile. The high economic potential of the country and the growth in popularity of imported beer among the local population make this an attractive market for us. Strengthening our positions in Latin America is another step towards the achievement of one of the strategic goals of our company: to become the standard in the world beer industry,” Dmitri Kistev, the Director of Exports at Baltika Breweries, said.

Chile is one of the most economically-developed countries in the region, member of Mercosur along with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Commencing supplies to Chile continues Baltika Breweries’ successful development of the lucrative Latin-American market. In addition to Chile, Baltika Breweries exports to Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras, Uruguay and Cuba.

Chile’s beer consumption is estimated at 35 litres per capita.

Baltika Breweries is the largest producer of consumer goods in Russia, and has been the leader in Russian beer market with an over-40% share, since 1996. According to 2008 statistics, Russian beer market is the world’s third largest. Baltika Breweries is responsible for approximately 70% of all beer exports out of Russia. The company’s products are sold in more than 50 countries, among them countries of the CIS, Europe, the Pacific Rim, as well as North and South America.
