E-Malt.com News article: Malawi: Consumers fear shortage of Carlsberg beers as the brewer suspends production for a month
Brewery news

Carlsberg Malawi Limited has suspended beer production to pave way for installation of a new plant, The Daily Times reported on January, 13.

Pub owners and consumers say they already feel the shortage of Carlsberg beer in the country.

“The thing is most consumers enjoy having Carlsberg as it is the only affordable bottled beer available but the current scenario would affect revenue for bottle stores including leaving no choice for beer drinkers,” said a bottlestore owner in Blantyre.

In a recently issued statement, the brewer said it was installing a new pasteuriser to further improve beer quality.

“The installation process of the new pasteuriser machine commenced at the beginning of January and is expected to be completed at the end of January.

“During this period, the brewery will not be producing beer and as a result customers and consumers are likely to experience a temporal shortage of beer on the market as we fill up the distribution pipeline,” says Carlsberg in the statement.

The brewer however assures its consumers that in preparation for the overhaul it produced surplus quantities of beer that are with its various customers across the country.

“In addition it (Carlsberg) will provide the market with an alternative range of imported beers during this period,” reads part of the statement.

Carlsberg Malawi Limited last year celebrated its 40 year anniversary of beer production in the country where it added to its brand Carlsberg Elephant.
