Brewery news

Spear USA has purchased Precision Printing and Packaging, an Anheuser-Busch unit that prints beverage and food labels, St. Louis Business Journal published June 2. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

PPPI, based in Clarksville, Tennessee, prints 28 billion labels annually for Anheuser-Busch and other clients, and has annual sales of $70 million, according to a news release. The St. Louis-based brewer is also a Spear USA client.

"This sale will strengthen and PPPI, and we look forward to continuing our long-term majority supply relationship with Anheuser-Busch," said Randy Spear, president of the Mason-based label maker.

Spear specializes in pressure-sensitive labels for the beverage industry. The company has plants in Mason, Milford, N.H., and Fulton, N.Y., as well as operations in the United Kingdom and South Africa.

St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., through its Anheuser-Busch Inc. subsidiary, is the leading domestic brewer, holding a 48.5 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company also manufactures and recycles aluminium cans and operates theme parks.
