Brewery news

The Brewers Association of Canada (BAC) is pleased to announce the election of Bruce McCubbin as Chair of its Board of Directors, according to CNW Telbec, April 1.

"The Canadian brewing industry will be facing tremendous challenges in the years to come," said Mr. McCubbin. "I am accepting this role at a critical time when the rising price of barley, a worldwide shortage of hops, and the higher value of the Canadian dollar are all issues of significant concern for our industry."

"We are delighted that someone with such experience and industry knowledge as Bruce McCubbin has agreed to lead our Board of Directors," said Ian Faris, President. "We are looking forward to working with him to continue to improve the marketplace for beer while encouraging responsible consumption."

Mr. McCubbin has more than 10 years experience in the brewing industry and is the Chief Executive Officer of Moosehead Breweries Limited, based in Saint John, NB. He is a graduate of Mount Allison University and received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.

Mr. McCubbin welcomed the appointment to the Board of Directors of Bernardo Paiva, representing Labatt Breweries of Canada, and John Sleeman, a former Chair of the BAC, representing Sleeman Breweries Limited. They will join the current directors - Kevin Boyce, President and CEO of Molson Canada, Ron Waldman, President and CEO of Great Western Brewing Company in Saskatoon, SK and Shaun Fraser, CEO of Pump House Brewery in Moncton, NB.

The Brewers Association of Canada is the national trade association representing companies brewing and marketing beer in Canada. Its members produce over 98% of all domestic beer sold in Canada. The industry generates $14 billion a year in economic activity. Over the past two decades, the Association and its members have demonstrated their commitment to medical and behavioral research, environmental stewardship initiatives and responsible consumption programs.
