E-Malt.com News article: USA: Starr Hill Brewery enters distribution agreement with Anheuser-Busch
Brewery news

Starr Hill Brewery announced today that Anheuser-Busch will become the master distributor for Starr Hill, giving it the benefit of Anheuser-Busch’s logistical expertise in managing distribution, as well as access to more independent and chain retail accounts, according to A-B’s press release, December 18.

“We’re proud that our products have been added to Anheuser-Busch’s select list of craft beers offered through its world-class distribution network,” said Mark Thompson, founder and president of Starr Hill Brewery. “Our beers have won twelve awards so far, eleven from the Great American Beer Festival and one from the World Beer cup. This alliance now offers us unparalleled distribution resources and the expertise to distribute our award-winning beers beyond our core base in Virginia. We founded Starr Hill with the mission of sharing great beer with the world, and this represents yet another step towards fulfilling that dream.”

Starr Hill’s products include the company’s original product, Starr Hill Amber Ale, a malty, full-flavored beer brewed in the tradition of the great English ales; Starr Hill Jomo Lager, a mellow lager brewed according to German tradition; Starr Hill Pale Ale, an aromatic and complex medium-bodied beer; and Starr Hill Dark Starr Stout, an Irish-style ale with a rich, robust taste.

“We’re committed to providing new and exceptional beverages to those adult consumers who are looking for specialty products,” said Dave Peacock, vice president, marketing for Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Starr Hill has already developed a loyal following among craft beer consumers in Virginia, and together with our wholesaler network, we’re looking forward to enhancing the distribution and sales support for these award-winning beers.”

Brewing and marketing decisions will remain the responsibility of Starr Hill and its management.

Based in St. Louis, AnheuserBusch is the leading American brewer, holding a 48.4 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company brews the world’s largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. AnheuserBusch also owns a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico’s leading brewer, and a 27 percent share in China brewer Tsingtao, whose namesake beer brand is the country’s best-selling premium beer. Anheuser-Busch ranked No. 1 among beverage companies in FORTUNE Magazine’s Most Admired U.S. and Global Companies lists in 2007. AnheuserBusch is one of the largest theme park operators in the United States, is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and one of the world’s largest recyclers of aluminum cans.

Founded in Charlottesville, Va., Starr Hill Brewery opened in 1999 with the mission of bringing the gift of great beer to the world. Since then, Starr Hill has become a celebrated, award-winning brewery, with its four house beers winning 12 medals in the six years since the brewery’s creation.
