E-Malt.com News article: Colombia: Government raises VAT on distilled beverages

Consumers of distilled alcoholic beverages in Colombia have faced a significant price change since January for products such as whiskey, aguardiente, rum, and brandy, FreshlyBottled.com reported on January 22.

This is because the VAT on these beverages will increase from 5 % to 19 %, as part of the fiscal measures included in the economic emergency decree.

In addition to the VAT increase, these products are subject to the consumption tax, which has also been adjusted and includes an additional component per bottle, raising the final cost to the consumer.

With the combination of the new 19 % VAT and the existing consumption tax, the price of some liquors will rise significantly in 2026, it is reported.
