Carlsberg from Denmark will enter the Indian market by forging alliances with Nepal-based Khetan Group (KG), Thomson Dialog News cited India Business Insight October 30. A joint venture company called Gorkha Brewery (GB) has been opened in Nepal. Carlsberg will hold major stake in the venture. The venture is planning to set up greenfield projects in India. GB makes and markets San Miguel brand in Nepal.

The joint venture will relaunch the brand in India. Carlsberg and KG are planning to acquire Hummel Brewery in Himachal Pradesh. The brewery has an installed capacity to manufacture 1.5 lakh hectolitres and the monthly output will be 1.5 lakh cases. The joint venture between

Carlsberg and KG will be named South Asian Breweries.
