The brewers of the Republic of Moldova produced about 43.8 million litres of beer in 2002, local press writes. 73% of the local beer market is held by Vitanta-Intravest, recently bought by Efes Beverage Group. 7 million litres of beer were imported in 2002 year. The most beer (5.68 million litres) was imported from the CIS countries (former Soviet Union), mainly from Ukraine. Now the national beer output may suffer from the Parliament decision to set a tax of EUR 1 for one litre of imported pure alcohol.

Republic of Moldova or Moldova is a former republic of the Soviet Union situated between Romania and Ukraine.
