Brewery news

Staropramen announced it has won on September 27th two excellent awards in the Czech Beer 2006 competition. This was confirmed by the expert jury of the competition, which is organized by the Czech Beer and Malt Association. Staropramen placed second in the “pale lager” category. The success of beers from the Pivovary Staropramen portfolio was also demonstrated by third place for Staropramen Dark Lager in its category.

The Staropramen beers’ placings in this independent, juried competition is a recognition of the stable quality and unique taste of Staropramen beer. In two rounds held in April and June, 2006, the expert jury compared 23 Czech pale draught beers, 35 lagers, and 8 dark beers. The awards won by Staropramen were agreed upon by 24 brewmasters and independent brewing experts working under the supervision of the Beer and Malt Research Institute.

“Thanks to this competition, Czech consumers have an opportunity for better orientation in a crowded market. For us, recognition from experts is another affirmation that our breweries produce beer that is top quality in our market,” commented Pivovary Staropramen’s Director of Production and Vice Chairman of the Board František Šámal on the results. “With 64 brands vying for top honors, every placing in the top three is a great accomplishment,“ added Šámal.

Thus, Pivovary Staropramen repeated its excellent performance in the 2005 Czech Beer competition, when Ostravar Originál won in the Pale Draught Beer category, Ostravar Premium in the Pale Lager category was named Beer of the Year, and Staropramen Světlý placed third in the Draught Beer category.

In 2005, Staropramen was the most awarded beer in the Czech Republic. In 2005-06, it has so far won seven prestigious medals in the five principal beer competitions.
