Kenya Breweries’Sales Director Collins Oneko announced that the water of life project, which was facilitated by United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), has sunk two boreholes in Nyatigo village, according to a press release of December 18.

Mr. Oneko said the Ministry of Water and Irrigation provided technical assistance for a geo-physical survey in the area. He said the boreholes would give the residents of Nyatigo access to clean water and improve the community's health and welfare.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony , the Area MP and former Planning Minister Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o said through the EABL Foundation Water of Life Project, Water and Air borne diseases would drastically go down in the area. Prof. Nyong'o said the area has a big potential for agriculture and urged the residents to use the water to irrigate their farms to increase productivity.

He said that more than 3,000 people are expected to benefit from the project adding that it should be a bonus to the local economy as food crop production would increase. The MP said EABL Foundation has funded numerous water projects, including the water of life project in Wepma, Thika, the Nzueni water project in Makueni and that others are in the pipeline in Bungoma and Wajir Districts.

The Sales Manager said the project would give over 50,000 people access to clean water providing a solution to one of the biggest problems in the country. The Water of Life programme, created by Guinness UDV has seen half a million people across the world gain access to clean water.
