Brewery news

City officials and members of the public celebrated Ignite Brewing Co. opening its Brunswick location, which is the only craft brewery in the city, on Friday, June 30, the Medina Gazette reported.

Couples Megan and Jason Slater and Stacy and Michael Chisnell opened Ignite’s first location in Barberton around five years ago. Megan Slater said the four friends wanted to open a brewery together because they have seen breweries make a difference in small towns before.

“The socio-economic impact to the community was what we wanted …” Michael Chisnell said. “We opened the brewery as a way to give back to our community and create the space that we wanted to experience, which our families could experience.”

Ignite’s Brunswick location is at “The Courthouse” at 1255 N. Carpenter Road. The taproom is 4,500 square feet, and there is an 8,000-square-foot patio, which will feature cornhole, live music, trivia and more. Brewing can be done on-site in Brunswick, and around 16 Ignite beers are sold on-tap.

“There’s just not many places where you can go and just hang out for a couple hours …” Stacy Chisnell said. “The nice thing about a brewery, and especially a big patio like this, is you can come for three hours, bring the kids, bring the grandparents, play board games, hang out, listen to music and enjoy the day.”

The company’s mission is “Making Beer Make a Difference.” Michael Chisnell said 11 percent of the net income from the brewery goes back to the community. At the Barberton location, that money has gone to organizations such as food banks and COVID-19 relief funds.

Ignite expanded into Brunswick because it is close to Cleveland, and northern Medina County has historically had good distribution sales, Michael Chisnell said. Ignite products are sold in around 250 different bars, restaurants and grocery stores.

In the future, Ignite plans to broaden its offerings, he said. In a couple of months, the kitchen at the Brunswick location will be fully operational in order to have a full food menu. Ignite also intends to sell wines and select spirits in the future.

The business hours for the Brunswick location are as follows:

3-10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays
3-11 p.m. Fridays
11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays

“Our hopes for the future (are) to continue to replicate the community, the craft beer education and the experience that our customers in Barberton have rave reviews about,” Michael Chisnell said. “They absolutely love coming there. We’re hopeful that magic can spill over to Brunswick and our customers can become friends and family.”
