Beer lovers near Ann Arbor will soon be able to enjoy a summer night at Mothfire Brewing Co.’s newest location, MLive.com reported on June 29.

Mothfire’s new brewery and taproom is set to open Thursday, July 13, at 713 W. Ellsworth Road in Pittsfield Township. The company was formerly operating out of a building at 2290 S. Industrial Highway and was known as Pileated Brewing Co. before it was purchased in 2019.

Noah Kaplan and David Becker have been behind Mothfire’s operations since 2020 and said they have been working to “make Ann Arbor a better beer destination.” Mothfire prides itself on its partnership with Michigan farmers and brews options for IPAs, sour ales, pilsner and dark beers, they said.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the next stage of Mothfire to life,” Kaplan said in a statement. “We’re so grateful for the foundation we built at our Industrial Avenue location and believe that this next space will help us not only continue to brew and package the highest quality beer, but also build a place for locals and beer lovers from near and far to gather over food, drink, music, art and more.”

The new 6,000-square-foot-space will have seating for 40 people in its taproom along with an outdoor patio that can seat an additional 70 people.

Customers will find a wide selection of beer options to choose from, along with hard seltzers, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, Becker said. There will also be some house made hard seltzer cocktails to choose from which include a Paloma Fizz, Moscow Mule Fizz and Cucumber Basil Fizz.

As for food, Mothfire will offer Carrozza Pizza’s wood-fired pizza. Becker said Mothfire also plans to work with other food trucks in the future.

Head Brewer Alexis Jorgensen spearheads the operations of Mothfire alongside Kaplan and Becker. She said this new Pittsfield Township space allows her to brew more beer than ever before and gives her extra room to expand Mothfire’s brewing operations in the future.

Jorgensen began working with Mothfire in fall 2020 and brings more than 10 years of professional brewing experience along with some time as a homebrewer.

Becker and Jorgensen agree this new location gives the company the chance to continue to improve on its original products many have come to know and love.

“We put a lot of thought into every beer that we brew,” Jorgensen said. “No beer is ever staying the same (because) there’s constant changes that we are doing. We are constantly refining and changing because we are always trying to make it better than the last version.”

The business plans to operate six days a week with hours set for 4 to 10 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 4 to 11 p.m. Friday; noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
