Czech Republic: SABMiller announced on December 22 that Mike Short, Managing Director of Dreher Breweries Ltd., in Hungary, has been appointed as Managing Director of Plzenský Prazdroj, a subsidiary of SABMiller, as of February 1, 2005. Steve Woodward, current Plzenský Prazdroj Managing Director, will take over a new position in SABMiller plc global operations during the 1st quarter 2005.

Mike Short, who has both U.K. and South African nationalities, has an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Post Graduate Qualifications in Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology. Prior to joining SABMiller, his background was in the Aeronautical, Marine and Nuclear Engineering fields, initially gained at Rolls-Royce Aero Engine Division in the U. K., then through service in the British Royal Navy in nuclear submarines.

He filled various positions in Canada, South Africa and France working on nuclear power programs and Project Management.

After a period of consulting to the South African Breweries, Ltd. (SAB), he joined SAB as General Manager of the Rosslyn brewery, then the largest brewery in the Southern Hemisphere. He was subsequently appointed as Operations Director and later Technical Director in South Africa.

In July 2003, Mike was appointed as Managing Director of SABMiller’s subsidiary in Hungary. Dreher Breweries, Ltd., based in Budapest.

Plzenský Prazdroj is a major Czech brewer. With export to 50 countries worldwide, it is also the largest exporter of Czech beer. Plzenský Prazdroj is a part of the international brewing force, SABMiller plc, one of the world’s largest. Pilsner Urquell is SABMiller’s flagship brand.
