Brewery news

One of Ohio’s most revered breweries is taking over the Elevator Brewing Co. space, the Columbus Business First reported on October 7.

Athens-based Jackie O’s will be acquiring the long-time Columbus craft brewery’s downtown Columbus spot at 165 N. 4th St., the company said in a press release.

“This is something we’ve been dreaming about for years,” Jackie O’s owner Art Oestrike said in the release. “We are excited it’s finally becoming a reality and can’t wait to bring Jackie O’s to our supportive customers in the Columbus community.”

Elevator owner Dick Stevens put his 20-year-old Columbus brewery up for sale earlier this year.

Jackie O’s is renovating the nearly 6,000-square-foot Elevator brewery space, which includes a 15-barrel brewhouse. It also plans to open a carryout space next door at 171 N. 4th St., which was the site of Elevator’s taproom. Renovations are underway there as well.

Elevator owned its brewery space, but leased the taproom space. Jackie O’s plans a grand opening for 2021 though carryout service is expected to begin in the coming months.

Not included in the deal is the Elevator Brewery & Draught Haus restaurant at 161 N. High St., which has had fully separate ownership from the brewery since 2016.

Jackie O’s was founded in 2005 in Athens and has grown into a regional craft brewery serving sites around Ohio as well as notable beer shops around the world. Its Athens holdings include Jackie O’s Brewpub, the Public House Restaurant, Jackie O’s Taproom and production brewery, Barrel Ridge Farm, and Jackie O’s Bakeshop.
