Brewery news

Dave's BrewFarm in Wilson is for sale again.

This time he means it. The brewery has closed, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on July 14.

Inspired by farmhouses of Belgium, David Anderson opened the brewery a decade ago on 35 acres in rural Wilson, a small town a town scattered with taverns and located halfway between Hudson and Menomonie.

The BrewFarm, Wisconsin's first contemporary farm brewery, was open two weekends a month. Beers were served in a small taproom downstairs from the living quarters and could be sipped at tables overlooking a lush meadow.

Anderson is asking $450,000 and is selling the brewery as a turnkey brewery asset sale. All the equipment and other pieces are in place to begin brewing.

There are a couple requirements. He is asking for cash and brewery experience. When the BrewFarm was up for sale in 2014, Anderson said he opened for hundreds of showings but to mostly "dreamers and tire-kickers."

This time, Anderson said, he let his brewery license expire. He earned a master's degree in servant leadership from Viterbo University in La Crosse, where he will relocate. His area of interest is the ethics of Artificial Intelligence in education and health care.

"That's a gear shift for you," he said in a phone interview.

He will also consider selling the brewing equipment separately and the BrewFarm as a food production-ready hobby farm.

Anderson will continue to work as a beer judge and possibly consult. He closed the BrewFarm at the end of June when he let his Class B Beer license (for retail sales) lapse.
