Brewery news

Two new breweries are slated to open in Atlanta in the next two months, joining a spate of recently opened or soon to open breweries in the area, AJC reported on July 16.

Fire Maker Brewing has plans to open as early as this fall on Chattahoochee Avenue in the Underwood Hills neighborhood, Eater Atlanta reports. Though details on the types of beer to be brewed are scant, the space will feature up to 30 taps, roll-up garage doors, a covered patio and seating at the bar, high top tables and communal tables.

Fire Maker will join several other breweries in the area including Second Self Beer Co., Scofflaw Brewing Co., Steady Hand Beer Co. and Monday Night Brewing. Scofflaw also has plans to open a taproom at future mixed-use development The Works on the Upper Westside off of Chattahoochee Avenue.

In addition, Candler Rail Brewery will open early next year at 1660 DeKalb Ave., in the space previously occupied by The Mercantile, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. Cander Rail will feature at least eight kinds of beer, food and catering services. The project comes from Alan Porter and his father, Winston, who is an owner of STATS in downtown Atlanta. Alan Porter is also a co-owner of STATS and also owns Porter Pizza and Brewery in Sandy Springs and Porter Brew & Que in Dunwoody.

Several brewpubs and breweries have opened in metro Atlanta in the past few months, including Sceptre Brewing Arts in Oakhurst; Halfway Crooks in Summerhill; The Lost Druid Brewery in Avondale Estates; and Glover Park Brewery in Marietta.

Beer-related projects set to open in the next few months include Red’s Beer Garden in Benteen Park; Biggerstaff Brewing Company in Old Fourth Ward; and Round Trip Brewing in the Upper Westside.
