Brewery news

Elder Brewing Co. plans to open Nov. 10, making it the second microbrewery in Joliet, The Herald-News reported on November 3.

Both will have opened within two months of each other.

Elder Brewing will have a small tap room for customers on the first floor of the microbrewery at 218 E. Cass St.

"We're going to have three and possibly four (beers)," said Melissa Polykandriotis. "We have the capacity to do 10. But we're going to start out with three or so next weekend."

Melissa will run the business with her husband Andrew, who is the owner.

The building is the former location of JCM Uniforms, a business owned by the Polykandriotis family and now located at 151 E. Cass St.

The tap room will include a bar, a bar ledge, and a few small tables. Hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Fridays through Sundays and 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

Elder Brewing will start serving a cream ale, American pale ale and IPA, Polykandriotis said.

"They each have a different level of hoppiness. They should each please a different level of taste," she said.

The opening of Elder Brewing will follow the opening of MyGrain Brewing Co. in early September in the old Union Station downtown. They are the first two microbreweries in Joliet.
