Mexico: The duopoly of Mexico’s beer market is set to change, according to a recent study. Research by broker Ixe has concluded that the domination of the beer market by Femsa and Modelo will have to end in the long-term, with InBev possibly playing a role in the possible change.

“We have sustained our long-term vision that: a) the Mexican beer industry is the object of anti-competitive practices; b) we think that eventually it will change; c) it is possible that Ambev will participate in this potential change; d) things are already happening; e) FEMSA will perform better than Modelo in the long term; f) change is good for the industry and could mean 600,000 new sales points,” Ixe said in its research.

Last month, anti-trust regulators in Mexico said that they are investigating anticompetitive practices in the country’s beer market. The Federal Competition Commission said that it will investigate whether actions, contracts, or agreements are blocking competitors’ access to vendors or pushing them out of the market, just-drinks posted.
