Brewery news

Beer enthusiasts and buyers will have a chance to try a Norwood beer before making their purchase, Patch.com reported.

Last week, the selectmen approved a pouring permit for the Percival Brewing Company, located at 83 Morse St. The brewery will be able to operate a tasting room and offer small samples of their products.

The approval did not come without some questioning from board members. Selectman Helen Abdallah Donohue initially thought of the tasting room as a bar trying to open without a liquor license.

“You’re getting around that requirement and you’re asking for a liquor license. You’re trying to circumvent state law,” Donohue said.

Owner Filipe Oliveira said the samples would be limited to a flight of four 5 oz. glasses that can be used to sample four beers on tap. No customer will be allowed to purchase more than four samples during a single visit. Larger glasses, cans, and bottles of beer will not be available for purchase at the brewery.

“It allows us to use the general public as a focus group. If people don’t like the brand, we can know at the facility,” Oliveira said.

No other beers will be offered outside of what is brewed on site and there will be no sales beyond the samples, Oliveira said. If customers in the tasting room like the beverage, they'll have to buy more at their local liquor store.

Percival Brewing Company is aiming for an April opening, according to their website.
