Brewery news

A new craft brewery has opened in Scottsdale, Phoenix Business Journal reported on November 8.

Mesquite River Brewing opened this past weekend at 13610 N Scottsdale Road, off Scottsdale and Thunderbird roads.

The space can seat 65, and owners Karl Ivanoff and Fred Misch have produced eight original beers on its 12-beer tap, including pale ale, IPA, stout, amber ale, red ale, and brown ale, according to Mouth by Southwest.

Arizona has roughly 80 craft breweries right now, which pales in comparison to California's 518, or Colorado's 284.

"Arizona has less breweries than the entirety of San Diego County," said Barry Tingleff, sales manager for Phoenix's SunUp Brewing Co. "We're seen as the up-and-comer. The spotlight is on Arizona right now."
