Kenya Breweries announced on July 26 2004 that its brands, Tusker Lager, Tusker Malt Lager, Pilsner and White Cap Lager were each awarded Gold at the highly respected international beer awards conducted by the “Monde Selection International Institute for Quality Selection.”

This is the official institution established in 1961, by the Belgium Government for universally maintaining high standards of beverages and foods produced for human consumption. Each year applying criteria laid down by the European Union, and after exhaustive laboratory tests and analyses by experts, Monde Selection awards three categories of medals, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Kenya Breweries Managing Director, James Musyoki is thrilled with this latest round of success given the Monde Selection is open to breweries around the world. “The monde Selection judges rate all entries on beer freshness, flavor and appearance. We are pleased to know that all of the beers we entered received the gold awards reinforcing the overall quality of our Kenya Breweries beers, “ he noted.

He adds, “This goes to confirm that our brands are indeed of the highest quality. Brewed from the finest natural ingredients and using the state-of-the-art technology available to us, has enabled us to produce the best beer in this country. The extra care we take when brewing our brands, and the highly professional manner in which we conduct our entire business is the solid foundation for the success of our brands.” Musyoki added that Kenya Breweries Limited is at the moment involved in several initiatives and continuous improvement processes in order to maintain world-class manufacturing standards.

Excellence in KBL is a combination of several things including: frequent staff trainings, continued investment in state-of-the-art equipment for its brewing processes – KBL has invested Kshs 1.4 billion in a state-of-the art bottling line and is currently investing Kshs 600 million in new manufacturing equipment for its brew house – as well as the use of the finest ingredients harvested from Kenya to make the beer.

Several of KBL brand including Tusker Malt Lager, Pilsner Lager and Citizen Lager have in the past won gold medals in the Monde Selection beer competition.
