Plans to build an approximately $5 mln brewery and taproom in Monroe took another step forward last week when city council had its first reading for a property tax abatement for the project, said Jennifer Patterson, assistant to the city manager, Journal News reported on December 1.

Cincinnati craft brewer The Rivertown Brewing Co. revealed plans in early November to expand and build the new site in Butler County.

The city is considering an abatement of 45 percent for five years for the real estate improvements, Patterson said. A second reading of the tax incentive is likely to be held at the Dec. 8 council meeting, she said.

Started in 2009, the brewer known for its sour beers has outgrown its existing space in Lockland faster than anticipated, founder and leader Jason Roeper said.

Construction could start next spring at the proposed Rivertown site, located near the intersection of Salzman Road and Ohio 63 in Butler County. Plans are to build a 31,600-square-foot facility with production, restaurant and bar space, Roeper previously said.
Rivertown Brewing expects to be fully operational in Monroe in 2017, he said.
