Brewery news

After months of construction and many weather-related delays, Scioto Downs Racino has opened Brew Brothers Microbrewery and Restaurant, bringing a little taste of Reno, Nevada, to Columbus, The Athens Messenger reported on October 28.

The addition of the $5.9 million microbrewery and restaurant is a central component of the company’s planned $9.5 million Phase II expansion of the property, which is earmarked to include the development of a hotel as well.

Just shy of 11,000 square feet, the brewpub will hire approximately 65 new staff members. This is in addition to the already existing 400-600 employees staffed by Scioto Downs, depending on the season.

Brew Brothers is a 20-year-old concept that originated at Scioto Downs’ parent company Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno, Nevada. At the time of its inception, Eldorado was the first casino in the country to open a microbrewery. Scioto Downs will now follow suite as the first racino to open a microbrewery.

The brewpub features a state-of-the-art microbrewery complete with 10 brewing vessels, a 44-foot long bar with 23 bar seats, 155 indoor seats, approximately 85 patio seats, a 336-square-foot entertainment stage and a 37-foot tall grain silo.

Founded by brothers Gregg, Gary, Gene and Glenn Carano, the brewpub will offer a casual atmosphere for those visiting the racino.

One of the biggest draws to The Brew Brothers is the house-brewed beer, which should be ready sometime in early November. The company is waiting on the permits to be issued before the brewing process can begin. However, until the permits are issued, customers will be able to choose from a variety of local craft beers.

The bar will offer 11 taps; six dedicated to its own brews and five dedicated to local beers.

Dubbed as Ohio’s first racino, Scioto Downs Racino features video lottery terminal games, seasonal live harness horse racing, year-round simulcast wagering, an array of dining options and live entertainment.

Scioto Downs Racino is located at 6000 S. High St., Columbus.
