Brewery news

BackPew Brewing plans to open the doors on its church-turned-brewery in November, the latest of several microbreweries to open in the Houston area.

Officially Saints and Sinners Brewing Co. LLC, BackPew Brewing is located in Porter, Houston. The brewery is housed in a converted church and initially plans to employ three people, founder Bobby Harl told the Houston Business Journal.

“The brewery is going to use the religious theme for its beer. Initially only on tap at Houston-area bars, BackPew Brewing will have two lines of beer: Saints and Sinners. The Saints line, which will be white, will be for beginners or those who want something easier to drink. The Sinners line, which will be black, will be drinks with higher alcohol content and experimental flavours,” Harl said.

To begin with, BackPew Brewing wants to produce 3,000 barrels of beer in the first year, with the goal of doubling in the second year, but that production could be increased depending on demand.

“The brewery aims to be a craft destination for the Humble area, as it will feature a tasting room and a backyard where people can hang out and drink,” Harl said.
