Brewery news

Mazama Brewing Company in Corvallis, Oregon and Belgian Brouwerij de Plukker are collaborating to brew a Belgian American IPA later this month, The Daily Meal reported on January 22.

Kris Langouche and Joris Cambie of de Plukker will travel to the Mazama Brewery to brew with founder and Head Brewer, Jeff Tobin, on January 26th and 27th. The beer will feature a Belgian yeast strain cultivated by Mazama and Pilgrim hops grown on de Plukker’s organic hop farm.

This collaboration is the first international collaboration for each family-owned brewery. “This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with Belgian brewers because much of our beer lineup has a Belgian influence,” said Jeff Tobin of Mazama Brewing Co. Kris Langouche, brewer and co-founder of De Plukker stated, “We are looking forward to meet Jeff and the Mazama team to see how they run their brewery and approach the brewing process. Since they brew Belgian inspired ales we will feel right at home!”

Founded in 2013 by Jeff & Kathy Tobin, Mazama Brewing Company specializes in brewing fresh Northwest- and Belgian-inspired ales. Mazama focuses on a balanced approach to traditional beer styles, while also taking advantage of fresh local hops and fruit to create some special brews. Mazama opened its brewery and taproom in May 2013.

De Plukker Brewery is a craft brewery located on the organic hop farm of Joris Cambie in Poperinge, Belgium. Joris has been growing organic hops for many years and he always had the dream to take it a step further and use his own hops for what they are best: to make craft beer. Brewer and co-founder Kris Langouche, also from Poperinge, shares this passion for hops and beer and so their hop growing and brewing skills were combined into a two man operation. “Plukker” is the Dutch word for a person employed to pick hops.
