Brewery news

Another microbrewery is opening in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The city council gave their approval on January 5 to amend the General Development Plan to allow the operation of a brewery, tap room, and off-sale liquor sales in the former O’Hara’s location. The amendment was necessary because the new Lupine Brewing Company will not be serving food like the former O’Hara’s did, wjon.com reported.

Owner James Anderle of Hanover says they’ve been leasing the space, and brewing there, since August. Their beers are already available at a few locations around town. Anderle says they want to add growler sales, and initially offer some taste sampling. He says they’re not anticipating becoming a full-blown tap room right away. Access to the brewery will be from the back side of the building.

The upstairs restaurant space is vacant right now, and the building owner is hoping the microbrewery will help to attract a restaurant into that location.

Back into 2012 the State Legislature passed the Surly law, which allowed for the creation of on-site liquor sales and tap rooms in Minnesota. Last month the St. Cloud city council also gave their approval to the Beaver Island Brewing Company in downtown St. Cloud.
